I'm trying to get a general idea of what goes on at some GSA's elsewhere around the world. As I said, I'm new to being the president, but I've been a member for two and a half years. I'm looking for some new ideas to bring to the table.
Thanks in advance!

my friend really needs your help!
I'm Nyssa, I'm a senior in highschool, blah blah blah...basically, I'm in a society class and I'm doing a seminar/ISP/essay/30% of my mark about the influences of teen sexuality. I'm sort of draining all of my resources, and I apologize if this is neither the time nor place, but I'm really just looking for honest teens to take 10 minutes out of their busy lives to answer a few questions... So, because all of you love me so much...would you mind doing this survey for me? It would really appreciate any feedback whatsoever, and you have NO idea how much it would mean to me. Again, I apologize if this is inappropriate in any way, and will gladly delete it if it is. Thanks again :)
All answers will be kept in complete anonymity, so there is no reason not to answer honestly. Thank you for your time. ( influences of teenage sexualityCollapse )

this is the persuasive speach I wrote for school on GSAs
GSAs In Our School
A teenage boy is walking home from school wearing his rainbow necklace, when
three boys jump out at him and begin beating him yelling “Fag! Fag! Fag!” A girl walking down the halls of her school while a group of her peers snicker and murmur something about her being bi. The crude comments about homosexuality and how ‘sick’ gays are, are not an unpopular part of our everyday life. Why? Because of ignorance!
The average student hears 25 anti-day slurs a day (www.PFLAG.org). This
should show people just how intolerant our nation is. Between having our own president
say that love, weather it be for someone of the same gender, is wrong, or having our own parents make homophobic remarks, no wonder young people have a fear or hate for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or transsexuals. I believe a very large part of this problem is because people are not taught at a young age that this is not some disease and that love is not wrong. I believe we must start informing people at a young age that homosexuality is not a horrible thing. This is why I believe we should have a gay straight alliance at our school, to educate students on tolerance for people and to stop discrimination against those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual in our community.
Studies have shown that students who identify as GLBT, are more likely to skip
school, or drop out of school or even attempt suicide (www.PFLAG.org). It’s no wonder
really, when you consider that in a fourteen city study of gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth, 80% reported verbal abuse, 44% threats, and 50% being chased or followed (www.PFLAG.org). This is an outstanding amount of youth. This behavior is
unacceptable. Could you imagine being discriminated against everyday just for caring
about someone? Suicide attempts are also two to six times more likely in gay or lesbian
youth , 30% of these are successful (www.PFLAG.org). In our school there are many
cases of students skipping each day. Who is to say that some of these cases were not
because a student did not feel safe or comfortable in their classes, because they are teased about their sexuality? We deserve to feel comfortable in our school and feel safe to come to school, but some of us are denied this privilege, because of ignorance. A GSA would open peoples eyes so they could understand how their negative comments effect other students everyday lives.
Another reported advantage to GSAs in school was that they provide a safe place
to talk about issues that affect them day after day without the fear of harassment or
discrimination (www.gsanetwork.org). GSAs help to make schools a safe and supportive
environment for all its students, not just gay students. Everyone need to feel comfortable to talk to someone about their personal issues, not to exclude their sexuality. Schools should be one of these places. I took my time to poll a group of students outside this classroom to see if they would feel comfortable about talking to our school staff about their sexuality. Out of the 28 students I asked, not one said they would be. In GSAs people do feel this safety, because they know that some people can relate to their feelings.
In 1984 a federal law was passed, under the Equal Access Act, it applies to public secondary schools that receive federal funding. It states, that a secondary school that allows student-initiated non-curriculum-related clubs to meet on school grounds during lunch or after school cannot deny other non-curriculim student groups access to the school or otherwise discriminate against the group due to the content of the students’ proposed discussion (www.nclrights.org). This simply means, that all non-curricular based clubs, must be treated the same. Now, our school has at least two groups that I’ve seen that is not curriculum based. Fellowship of Christian athletes, nor Key Club are in any way taught in class. These two clubs even had their pictures in the yearbook last year. So, if a GSA was proposed at our school, what right would there be not to have a GSA treated exactly the same? From what I see, its just a matter of time and brevity until someone brings this up to our staff.
How long will we continue to ignore these hateful remarks at our school? How
long will we allow out peers to be beaten up, just because they care for someone of the
same gender? How many of you know someone who is gay, lesbian or bisexual? How
many of you know someone who is homophobic? This is a real issue, this does truly
effect us! Even I can relate to this issue. I have a friend who considers himself bisexual and he was ‘gay bashed’ a few years back. He had been walking from our school and was attacked. How long do we have to deal with this? I ask you all today to join me in the efforts to create a GSA at our school, and do your own research on gay rights or GSAs to better educate yourself on this issue.
a little bit about myself
I am 25 and openly bi. I am also married to the sweetest guy in the world. He loves the fact I am bi and that I love watching gay porn. He dont like watching two men, but he don't mind me watching it becuase it turns me on, lol. He has let me try to fulfil the 2 guy 1 girl threesome, but it has yet to work out correctly. I have tried the 2 girl 1 guy thing, again, not successful.
We have 2 dogs and 2 cats (well one dog has to go, he is a 6 mo. old black lab/golden retriever/with slight chow mix and a 7 mo. old kitten went to the pound) so now im down to 2 dogs and 1 cat. And 1 chinese fighting fish.
My husband is 24 in November. We have been married for 3+ years and have had a rocky road, but are surviving. We currently are living in an apartment complex for low income, but its not housing atthority, because the guy is an ass when it comes to fixing things. *thinks* I could give you lots of information, but this is all for now.
I live in Pennsylvania and always looking for new friends to hang out with. BUT, not many that i find ol are close to me.
*hugs to you all*

I've been feeling all blah today, but the end of the day was probably the worst. Ya see,,, I went to an FFA meeting, and then (I dont want to say her name but I shall call her...)Hannah and Nick (her boyfriend's fack name for now) were there. Hannah wasnt in 6th period today and I asked her were she was. She was all 'Oh you didnt hear' and I shook my head. Come to find out she was in the office all day talking to CPS. Her dad beat her and has been for a few days now. Do you have any idea how pissed I was!? OMG! I was so upset I couldnt even talk.
Then I came home and got to think about everything. Hannah! Everyday in class I stare at her, just because she is so attractive to me. I..I dont understand myself. But...I think I may love her. BUT...she's with Nick. AND she's not gay... I mean, I remember last year when she was kinda contemplating her sexuallity, and tellign me she was attracted to some girls, and I was the only one she told that too,,,,could that have meant something? But she's crazy about Nick. and I think I'm crazy about her.... It's kinda driving me insane, especially because I dont even know if I am bi or not.... Do I love Hannah as a friend or more? Current Mood: confused

Oh My Goodness! I've been sooo hyped!
At school we had to choses topics for a pursuasive speach. Well, I choose to do mine on GSAs in school. (Not to mention I've been wanting to start one at school this year anyways.) So then my teacher approved it. YAY! lol. I've been so happy.
So I've been doing all kinds of research on GSAs (for my speach, and for me to start one). I've learned sooo much.
You see, last year some people tried to start a GSA but they went about it all wrong. They created a putition. Then our assistant principal tore it up. Number 1: What he did was illegal. and Number 2: Thats (makeing a putition) is not the way to start a GSA or any other club at school. I even got information on how to start a GSA. I've also found laws on having GSAs. Like, Under the Equal Access Act (EAA), a federal law passed in 1984 that applies to all public secondary schools that recieve federal funding, a secondary school that allows student-initiated non-curricular-related clubs to meet on school grounds during lunch or after school cannot deny other non-curricular student groups access to the school or otherwise discriminate against the group due to the content of the students' proposed discussions.
... in other words... all clubs that have nothing to do with something taught in school (ex. any Christian clubs, Red Cross, Key Club etc...GSA) must be treated equally. And our school has a Fellowship of Christian Athletes, AND a key club...so a GSA MUST
be treated the same as the others. =)
I am so udderly happy and I can't wait to write my persuasive speach and let these people know what I think. YAY! I will share it with you all when I'm done too. =)
Bye for now!...Wish me luck! Current Mood: excited

It's Me Again
Hey again everyone, I wanted to thank those of you who have joined. You guys are awsome, but I have no other posts on here, but my own. Come on you guys, post something,,, a story, a little about you...ANYTHING. Let us hear your feelings.
HEY everyone! I am Ashley, and I just wanted to welcome you all to the community,,,and to tell alittle about myself.
I am a teenage girl who is from Louisville, KY. I think I'm straight (love is love, if I so happen to be attracted to a person of the same sex/ if I fall in love with a girl so be it) but a large part of my friends are either gay or bi. My mother is also openly gay. We live with her partner, Susan. My mom often calls me the 'fag hag' because I sometimes show more gay pride than some gay people she knows.
I started this community because I have a high interest in the polotics of everything today, and I want to share and hear what other people think. I want to hear other people's storys and experiences and feelings altogeather. Please read the community rules before you make an entry.
I hope you can find some enjoyment or relief or comfort or whatever in this community, after all...thats the whole point right??!! =D Current Mood: excited
